Artist Statement — Lisa Morrison

My paintings are inspired by the beauty, energy, and changing moods of the natural world. I am particularly drawn to the interplay of light, colour, and atmosphere, and the way a landscape can evoke a feeling that goes beyond what we see.

Rather than simply reproducing a scene, I seek to interpret it through my own perspective. I use expressive colour, texture, and contrast to capture the character of a place, whether it is the quiet warmth of a sunlit shoreline or the raw energy of an approaching Atlantic storm.

My approach to painting is intuitive and exploratory. I enjoy pushing colour beyond the expected, allowing each painting to develop its own personality while maintaining a connection to the landscape that inspired it.

Ultimately, I want my paintings to invite viewers to experience a place rather than simply observe it—to feel its atmosphere, movement, and emotion.
